When to use this calculator
- Use this for an in-town or within-state move that a mover will bill by the hour.
- If you are crossing state lines, switch to the Long-Distance Move calculator — interstate work is priced by linehaul miles, not hours.
- Moving a business instead of a home? Use Office Relocation for commercial scopes and IT/furniture handling.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a binding quote?
No. ReloFig produces model-based estimates from public wage and rate data, not a binding quote. Always confirm with a licensed mover's written estimate.
What is not included?
Packing materials, specialty-item crating, storage, and long-carry or elevator fees are not included. The travel fee covers round-trip drive time.
Why does cost vary by area?
We apply a cost-of-living multiplier (low 0.85×, average 1.0×, high 1.25×) and a regional wage multiplier because mover labor rates differ by U.S. region.
How many movers do I need?
The model assumes a 2-person crew plus truck; you can add extra movers for larger homes. Studio/1-bed typically needs 2; 3–4 bedroom homes benefit from a 3rd mover.
Should I tip the crew?
Tipping is optional and separate from the estimate. Industry norm is roughly 10–20% of labor split among the crew for good service.
